November 15, 2012 10:47 AM

MP Julian Huppert took time out of his busy schedule to join youngsters on the football pitch at the Abbey astro turf in Pool Way to mark Youth Work Week.

The project is run by Abbey and Coleridge Action for Youth for youngsters aged 12 to 15.

Julian said: "It was great to join in with the youngsters getting together and having a good time. This is an excellent project which gives young people the opportunity to learn a variety of skills while at the same time keeping fit and having fun. They were impressive, and showed some great skills. They certainly outplayed me!

Youth Work Week, which ran from November 5 to 11, highlights the vital role youth work plays across the country; but the NYA warns that not everyone has access to these schemes.

Ian McLaughlin, Head of Youth Sports said: "I can't thank Julian enough for coming down and joining in the session.

"it was a good experience for the young people to meet their local Member of Parliament andhave an oportunity get their voices heard on issues that are important to them.

"Julian really got involved in the session and engaged well with the young people. He also got stuck in on the pitch and chipped in with some vital goals in a close game."
