Paddy Ashdown: 'We need the party back on the streets!'

"The party has been hiding under the stairs with a blanket over its head, and one of the things we've got to do is get out there, on to the streets, because it isn't as bad as people think it is. In fact, it's much better than we imagine."

On the road with Nick Clegg: visiting all 57 seats

"It can be hectic. One minute he's on the phone to Danny or the Cabinet Secretary discussing the Budget or some incredibly important government business, the next he's chatting to apprentices, catching up with party members or taking questions from the public."

Most of these projects are in post-conflict societies where democracy means more than ideology and money, it means fair representation, delivery of crucial services, safety from violence and transition from oppressive regimes.
