MP hosts roundtable for a 'manifesto' on planning issues

Member of Parliament for Leeds North West, Greg Mulholland, will this Wednesday host a roundtable event in Parliament with the aim of compiling a 'manifesto' for planning reform that campaigners say the next Government must look at.

This comes on the back of Mr Mulholland introducing the National Planning Policy (Community Involvement) Bill into the House of Commons on 30th April. The Bill attracted cross-party support with 11 MPs across the three main parties adding their names to Mr Mulholland's Bill.

Mr Mulholland aims to keep up the pressure on the current and next governments and has invited campaigners and MPs to his roundtable event. In attendance will be representatives from organisations such as the Campaign to Protect Rural England and National Trust. A number of MPs will also be attending. Mulholland and campaigners hope to agree on changes needed to the planning system which organisations and MPs can sign up to and lobby for together.

Mr Mulholland said:

"It is clear that communities around the country want a greater say in proposed developments in their cities, towns and villages. It is only right we give them that say and also look at additional powers they may need to protect much-valued local facilities and greenery.

"The aim of the roundtable event is to agree on the variety of changes that are needed and I hope these can be taken forward by MPs and organisations to lobby for and hopefully secure."

Press are invited to the event and should contact Mo Saqib at Greg Mulholland's office (0207 219 3833) if intending to attend.
