Simon Wright MP Drives Teacher Salary Sacrifice Car Campaign Forward

March 2, 2015 4:53 PM

Teachers are currently the only profession excluded from having access to salary sacrifice car schemes. These schemes allow employees to sacrifice part of their salary in return for a brand new vehicle, with significant savings. However, due to national pay regulations, teachers are currently the only profession in the country excluded from having access to this scheme.

The scheme provides a fully inclusive motoring package for a fixed monthly amount so drivers only really need to worry about fuel and oil. In addition through corporate discounts and tax efficiencies it offers an annual average saving of £1,200. It is also an environmentally friendly scheme as it helps to reduce carbon emissions, with a range of low-emissions vehicles on offer. Teachers in England and Wales are not specified in the Government's School Teacher Pay and Conditions Document (STCPD). Other similar benefits such as cycling schemes are mentioned and the omission of salary sacrifice car schemes is seemingly unintended.

Commenting, Tusker Chief Executive, David Hosking, said:

"I'd like to thank Simon Wright MP for backing the campaign and supporting teachers.

"We've been approached on countless occasions by teachers who have told us it is extremely unfair that they can't use a voluntary car scheme and the help of Mr Wright will go a long way to changing that."
