Richard Swift

Richard works as an accountant and has lived in Oakham for over 26 years. He has two sons; one at Manchester University and the other studying for his "A" levels at Rutland College.
Richard has valued the safe and nurturing environment and good education Rutland has provided for his sons and he wants to ensure that future generations will have the same advantages.
Richard is concerned about the environment and whilst he recognises that, nationally, there is a shortage of homes he is firmly of the view that any new housing must be planned and must complement, not conflict with, the natural environment. As a County Councillor for Oakham South East Richard would fight to keep Rutland's visual character.
Richard is keen to ensure that people who live in Rutland have the opportunity to work in Rutland. Rutland's unemployment is currently very low but, with increased housing being built to the North of Oakham, it is important existing businesses are encouraged to come to Oakham and for new business to start up in order to provide work for new residents. Richard is therefore very supportive of Oakham Enterprise Park. If elected as your Councillor for Oakham South East Richard will work hard to promote job opportunities for local people.
Richard will work tirelessly for local people; when issues arise from local residents he will act immediately. He will also support the needs and wishes of local people through the democratic processes and, like other Liberal Democrat councillors, will ensure he regularly attends and votes at Council meetings.
