Ian Wright CBECongratulations to local Lib Dem Ian Wright who was awarded a CBE for political and public service in the latest honours list.

Ian Wright is a lifelong third party activist. In 1981 he was the first elected student union president to declare for the SDP and he went on to be the Party's second staff member and its Vice President. He was a speechwriter for Paddy Ashdown from 1992-1998 and his Press Officer in the successful 1997 General Election campaign. He has subsequently been an adviser to both Ming Campbell and Nick Clegg during their leadership of the LibDems. He has been a local council candidate six times and was Chair of Lib Dems in Communications for five years.

Ian Wright has lived in Whissendine, Rutland for 18 years. Both his children attended the village school and Vale of Catmose College, where his wife Judith is Vice Chair of Governors. Ian has worked at senior levels for Boots The Chemists and Diageo. He is now Director General of the Food and Drink Federation, the representative voice of UK food and drink. He is a trustee of both The WAVE Trust and Children on the Edge.
