Indications have emerged from senior sources that contractors are to be appointed in days for the building of the much delayed Harborough Hospital and that work will start at the end of November.

Cllr Phil Knowles who has headed the campaign for around 28 years has given the news a cautious welcome but says that the pressure must be kept up until the doors finally open

"Let's hope that this time it happens. No more false dawns, no more broken promises.

"Harborough has waited so long for this. Residents will be hopeful that finally we will see the scheme delivered‎.

"Another failure is simply unthinkable. We have seen the CEO of NHS England and the Secretary of State involved in our efforts to get this sorted then so let's keep our fingers crossed"
