Liberal Democrats sweep to by-election victory!

December 12, 2015 3:34 PM

The Liberal Democrats have won another seat in Cambridgeshire after a decisive victory for Ste Greenhall in Huntingdonshire East.

Tim Farron, Lib Dem leader sent messages of congratulations to Ste after he picked up 45% of the vote. It also means the Liberal Democrats return as the official opposition on the council.

The seat was formerly held by UKIP who were reduced to just 16% of the vote. Tim Farron's twitter post read...

"Well deserved! Many congratulations!"

Cllr Greenall responded by saying, "I am absolutely thrilled to be back. I worked hard last time and I don't think I had done anything wrong but it was the national situation not the local which let UKIP in".

The result now means that the Liberal Democrats will be the second largest party on Huntingdonshire District Council and will provide strong opposition to the Conservative held council.
