Ian Wright CBEIn November 2017, The Rutland and Melton Liberal Democrats held their annual dinner and AGM at the Sailing Club which is in a fantastic location on Rutland Water. After dinner, Ian Wright CBE, Director of the Food and Drink Federation (and a member of our local party) gave an extremely interesting and informative talk about the negative effect of Brexit on all aspects of the food industry.

The FDF represents and advises food and drink manufacturers across the UK and says it is vital that we secure the right Brexit deal in order that consumers can keep the quality, choice and value that we have now.

In particular, the four key outcomes needed by the industry are:

  1. The right to remain for EU citizens so that their talents and skills can still be used
  2. Recognition of Ireland's special circumstances
  3. Zero-tariff and frictionless trade across borders
  4. Stable regulatory framework maintained for confidence in quality and authenticity
