Along with many other successes across the country, two Liberal Democrat candidates were successfully elected in Stamford to serve on South Kesteve District Council in the recent local elections.

Long-standing Town Councillor and previous District Councillor Harrish Bisnauthsing was elected top of the poll in St Mary's ward with his vote tally exceeding even that of Council Leader Matthew Lee. Fellow Stamford resident and local campaigner Amanda Wheeler was successful in her first ever attempt to be elected and jointly topped the poll in St George's ward. Both candidates are keen to ensure a more balanced representation on the strongly Conservative Council and to campaign for the following in Stamford:

  • Fairer business rates and diversity of affordable shopping
  • Provision of additional parking in Wharf Road
  • Geniunely affordable housing provision
  • Better growth and development support
  • Better provision for cyclists in Stamford
  • A park and ride for Stamford
  • Protection of our public spaces, heritage and recreation amenities
